Booking  a Terrace seat/ Restaurant in Vrijthof square

Maybe, like me, you dream of sitting in a café/ restaurant for the concert. Here, find out the booking procedure for a dinner ticket and the contact details to book for the Maastricht concert 2016. (Note: I have not updated this page in some time, so please excuse any old links or old information – I have left the page online as it may still be of guidance to you. Updating in progress. )

My experience booking a terrace seat for 2013

Last year I found it difficult to find information on how to book a terrace seat. Then I found out, I had to email the restaurants individually. So I listed the ones we wanted first and on getting no replies, I began phoning them and literally it was like communicating in double Dutch with some. I then almost got into a panic! Many of them were booked out. This was December! We eventually found one with 3 seats available (at first our gang of 8 was only 3). My experience goes on… it was totally unnecessary to phone! I started to receive email replies. We were left with a choice of restaurants. Now don’t get all laidback and think ‘ah sure that’s grand, must have been loads available…..blah blah blah…’…………IT WAS STILL QUITE BOOKED UP! So what I’m saying is, book early! (Seriously, by early I mean “now”… you’ll see what I mean as you search around.) Apart from the terrace concert seat, the flights and hotels were booked up very fast. Finding a decent hotel available was another kettle of fish. (Read about where to stay here…)

Dinner time

When you book a terrace seat, your dinner is included. Ticket prices are all around the same at around €80. Ours was a set menu at Momus Dinos – I found it quite delicious fortunately. Time wise, our dinner was at 7pm and the concert began at 9pm. During the concert we were asked to be quiet (naturally) and drinks ordering was during breaks or between sets. So make sure you have your drinks ordered on time! The square is fenced off from about 5 or 5.30pm so arrive well on time for dinner. Guests with dinner tickets are permitted into the square from 6.30pm and I recommend you gauge to be there at that time. Entering the square there was a little queue, not too bad and full of excitement. Regarding the request to stay quiet, with respect to the performers, we all understand this is a prerequisite. But don’t worry, when the dancing and waltzing sets begin you’re permitted to sway and sing to your heart’s content!

Your view

Remember, if you chose to sit in a restaurant, you won’t have a perfect view of the stage. If you are on the long strip to the right of the stage (Andre’s right), there are trees, screens and equipment that might obstruct your view. In the image above, the Perroen restaurant are promoting a great view of the stage. I cannot verify this view as we were on the right hand side, but imagine the seats all full and you are behind the last row, so you are as far back as possible. Just keep this in mind so that you won’t be disappointed. Imagine how your view/distance will be from the map I have below of the restaurants around the square.

Brass Band, Vrijthof, Maastricht

Brass Band, Vrijthof, Maastricht

Our restaurant Momus Dinos had a specified table for all the guests that had booked. Our table was not on the edge of the pavement which I would have preferred. So perhaps you could specify that in the email and if the restaurant owners are accommodating and have seats available, they should be obliging. I never thought of mentioning that in my emails. The owners of Momus Dinos, Albert and Chantal (he looks a bit like Michael Douglas) were really nice both in the email communication prior to the trip and in person.  We had a large screen nearby and that was great. We could also see through the trees and we were able to get out of our seats at certain times and have a look from the road… and of course to dance!

Andre Rieu pre-concert

Andre Rieu pre-concert – Taken by me! (That is not my hand in the photo!)

Before Andre and the orchestra came out a brass band entertained the crowd marching down the street. It was really great. Then I was just sitting there, probably poking through my handbag or something when my sister poked me and said look who is walking down the street. Andre! Ooooh I stood on the chair (which wasn’t a good idea because of the possibility of fainting) and I was in awe.. He walked right past! Well I went up to where they begin the entrance walk to the stage and he was standing there… only a few feet away. I don’t know if there was an ambulance nearby but thankfully I didn’t fully pass out so there was no need.

How to book a terrace seat

People travel from all over the world to this particular concert so the city is basically completely ‘waltzed over’ with fans in July. (I would estimate that our particular flight from Ireland had 90% plus of fans travelling to the concert.)

I found this link where they usually provide access to terrace tickets for some of the restaurants but the details have not been published yet for 2016. You will see the notice on the right under the YouTube video on their page :

(Note: if you use Google chrome to access this website it will easily translate it for you if it is not in english)

http://www.vvvmaastricht.nl/en/andre-rieu.html

If you prefer to try one of the restaurants not listed on the link above site when the information becomes available, you must contact the particular restaurant individually. Below I have a map of the restaurants surrounding the square and their website and email addresses. Some have an online form to book and others with no such form, you must email. Again, if you use google chrome as your browser it will translate any Dutch language sites… or do a search for google translate and you will translate the text. If you spot any mistakes or updates (here or anywhere on this site), please let me know and I will correct the information.

When emailing the restaurant you want, if they don’t have a specific reservation form on the website, specify:

Your Name, Your Address, Date you require, Number of tickets required, Any special requests.

From this website: http://www.hazuid.nl/aanbod/37-snacksons/ – the google translation is: At the corner of the Great State and the Vrijthof in Maastricht located Snacksons fast food company was sold by Southern Hospitality Advisory. This prime location is undergoing a metamorphosis and there will be a branch of Pinky move house, the third in the historic center! So it looks like it exists no longer!
